After a lot of negative publicity for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, there is something new to look forward to.
The Games' theme song called Jiyo, Utho, Badho, Jeeto by Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman was released today at Gurgaon's Kingdom of Dreams with much fanfare.
The song calls upon everyone to participate in the Oct 3-14 mega sporting event.
"I wrote the first line six months ago and kept tweaking it till I finally finished it last night (Friday). It is definitely an honour to compose the official theme song which is in the spirit of the Commonwealth Games," said Rahman, who performed at the launch function.
Among a house full of audience were present Chief Minister Shiela Dixit, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi.
Addressing the audience, Dixit appreciated all the efforts made by the OC members. Adressing Kalmadi, she said: "I know you have been in problem lately, but I believe that you will be successful in overcoming it¿"
She asserted that Delhi being India's Capital belonged to everyone and no just those "residing there". "Delhi, with India behind it, will be able to achieve what many thought might not be possible."
"This is the first time India is hosting the Games in the last 60 years. We are fully prepared for the event and I assure you that we will be able to deliver better than Beijing Olympics," said Kalmadi.
According to Kalmadi, Gurgaon had sold 800 tickets for the Games in the last two days, better than the rest of the state (Haryana).
Hooda, on his part, assured full support of his government and people for the Games and said: "From now on, this is the beginning of a festival which we all shall celebrate. As far as medals are concerned, I am confdent Haryana will bag the maximum numbers."
