The state ATS and Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Saturday questioned alleged Indian Mujahideen operative Danish Riaz in connection with the July 13 blasts in Mumbai.
The state ATS and Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Saturday questioned alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Danish Riaz in connection with the July 13 blasts in Mumbai. Sources said a team of Maharashtra ATS is expected here soon to question Danish, who is lodged in a city jail in connection with the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Mohan Jha said,The ATS and Crime Branch officials questioned him in connection with the Mumbai blasts, but he said he knew nothing about it. He is close to the IM module in Madhya Pradesh and we are probing if they had any role to play in the Mumbai serial blasts.
Danish was arrested from Vadodara railway station on June 21 this year following a tip-off that he was coming from Hyderabad to meet his friend.
State police sources said the Maharashtra ATS is closely following on Danishs connections in Ranchi, where he had provided shelter to Tauqeer,an absconding IM operative who is wanted in connection with the Ahmedabad serial blasts.
Sources said the Maharashtra ATS has sent teams to Indore,Ranchi,Lucknow and Pune and it may question Danish in connection to the Mumbai blasts since he has close links with alleged IM founder Amir Raza.
Ahmedabad police said Danishs name figures in the Intelligence Bureaus list of key IM operatives.
Meanwhile,Danish, whose remand period was ending in other cases related to the Ahmedabad serial blasts, was today arrested for a third time for his role in the 2008 blast at the city Civil Hospital.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has booked him in 21 different cases in connection with the 2008 serial blasts in the city.
DCP Crime Himanshu Shukla said,Danish has been arrested in the Civil Hospital blast case. He was earlier arrested in the Khadia and LG hospital blast cases. Shukla said the blast at the Civil Hospital was the biggest one during the 2008 serial blasts in Ahmedabad.
