Kamla Beniwal swears in as Governor

    Dr Kamla Beniwal was sworn in as the Governor of Gujarat at a simple ceremony held at the Town Hall in Gandhinagar on Friday.

    Gujarat High Court’s acting Chief Justice M S Shah administered the oath of office at the function which was attended, among others, by Chief Minister Narendra Modi and state Assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt.

    Later, an official statement said Dr Kamla is all for woman empowerment, stressing the need for giving due place and recognition to women in all walks of life, including the cooperative sector. Born on January 12, 1927, in a Rajasthan village, she was the first woman Deputy Chief Minister and also the first woman minister of Rajasthan. She had played a vital role in the establishment of Rajasthan Agriculture University at Bikaner and also the National Institute of Ayurved at Jaipur.
