Kasab complains to court that he was ‘shown’ to witnesses

Pakistani militant Ajmal Amir Kasab, complained to the court here that he was being "shown" to witnesses while he was being brought for the trial.

Pakistani militant Ajmal Amir Kasab,an accused in the November 26 terror strikes,on Thursday complained to the court here that he was being “shown” to witnesses while he was being brought for the trial. “Jab gavah ko andar laya jaa raha tha aur mujhe bhi laya jaa raha tha toh mujhe khada kar diya gaya. (When I was being brought to the court witnesses were also coming to the court and I was asked to stop before them),” Kasab told the court. “Were you not brought to the court in the morning?”,Special judge M L Tahaliyani asked. “Nahin subah laya gaya lekin raaste mein khada kar diya. (I was brought but was stopped on the way),” Kasab said. Kasab’s lawyer Abbas Kazmi took a strong objection to his client allegedly being “shown” to witnesses prior to the court proceedings and said the police should desist from such practices.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said the act,if committed, was not deliberate and it would be ensured that does not recur. The court could enquire in the matter if required,he said. Outside the court,Kazmi told reporters that he will file applications objecting to Kasab being “shown” to witnesses and their families being allowed in the court.

25-year-old homemaker identifies Kasab

Emotional scenes were witnessed on Thursday at a special court conducting the trial in November 26 terror strikes when a woman, who was injured at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, broke down recalling her six-year-old daughter died in her lap after being shot at by terrorists.

“Meri beti Afreen mere godh mein tadap rahi thi, khoon beh raha tha. Phir usne dum toda aur mein behosh ho gayi (My daughter ‘Afreen’ was writhing in pain in my lap. She was bleeding and then died. I lost consciouness),” Nafeesa Qureshi,a 25-year-old homemaker from suburban Bandra, said. Asked if she could identify the gunmen, she pointed to arrested terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Kasab and said “he was one of them.”

However, there was no reaction from Kasab. Qureshi and two others,a Home Guard and a RPF head constable, who were eyewitnesses to the terror strike at CST,deposed before the court today and identified Kasab as being among the duo that were shooting on the night of November 26. Yesterday, four other eyewitnesses identified Kasab as being involved in the attack on CST which claimed 52 lives and injured over 90. Qureshi said she was travelling to Aurangabad with her husband and daughter on November 26 and due to a delay in the train schedule they were sitting in the waiting hall. Her husband had gone out to bring eatables while she waited with her daughter,Qureshi said.
