Lucknow Metro gets a blueprint from Delhi

LDA vice-chairman Mukesh Meshram said,“The DMRC has given a tentative alignment of both the corridors of Lucknow Metro. It basically has the technical details of the project like designs of Metro stations and depots,locations with design of underground as well as elevated stretch of corridors.”

Meshram said that a high-level meeting would be held soon to discuss over this new alignment.

The East-West corridor is proposed to start from Charbagh and end in Basant Kunj on Hardoi Road via Gautam Buddha Marg-Aminabad-Medical University-Chowk and Thakurganj. This proposed route will cover a distance of 13 km.

The North-South corridor is proposed to start from Amausi airport and reach Munshipulia via

Hussainganj-Hazratgaj-Parivartan Chowk-Lucknow University-IT Crossing-Nishatganj and Polytechnic Crossing. The length of this proposed route was 23 km.

Mehsram said the DMRC has not made any specific change in the alignment.

Development of the underground stretch is expected to cost Rs 400 crore per kilometre. The cost of the elevated stretch will be about Rs 250 crore per kilometre,said sources.  

Meanwhile,the LDA has already sought information from the Lucknow Jal Sansthan,Jal Nigam,Municipal Corporation,power and PWD department,Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) etc about their set-ups and establishments falling on the route of Metro.

“These departments have been asked to send their details directly to DMRC,” Meshram said.

The LDA signed a memorandum of understanding with the DMRC on February 5,2009,enabling the latter to prepare DPR of Lucknow Metro rail project. DMRC had to submit the DPR by October 2009 but it has been delayed.
