In an attempt to restrict the spread of swine flu,the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to prepare a preventive medicine with prescribed ingredients and distribute it among its staff and visitors.
The civic body is also distributing pots of basil (tulsi) and other ayurvedic plants to all councillors. The MCD has asked them to distribute the plants for free to residents in their wards.
House leader Subhash Arya, who took the decision to make the preventive mixture available, said MCD has deployed staff to collect tulsi leaves and stems of a medicinal creeper,Giloi (Tinospora cordifoli) from the garden of its Town Hall headquarters and prepare the mixture. The MCDs ayurvedic dispensary in-charge has been asked to supervise the process.
The mixture,he said,is only preventive in nature. It clears the microcirculatory system and strengthens bodys immune system,he added.
Arya said several councillors have reported that there is a huge demand for these plants in their wards. Considering the demand,we will continue supplying these plants to councillors over the next few days, he said.
V K Monga, chairperson of MCDs public health and welfare department, said though the mixtures curative properties,if any, have not been proved yet,it is proven to have preventive properties. Use of Tulsi and Giloi is very common in India and people across the country have been using them in many ways due to their perceived power in controlling respiratory infections, he said. We spoke to many ayurvedic doctors before deciding on the mixture, and most of them endorsed it.
These ingredients are known to cure mild fever and flu and helps the body fight and resist infections.
