MSU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ramesh Goyals Go MS University International (GOMSI) project is all set to begin with authorities planning to plant ingredients of Triphala churan near Bhukhi Nalla, which flows by upper and lower bridge of the university campus.
After taking permission from the Vadodara District Social forestry department, the Botany department is planning to borrow 700 saplings of amla (Phylanthus Emblica),harde (Terminalia Chebula) and baheda (Terminalia Bellerica) ingredients of Triphla Churan and plant them in the Bhukhi Nalla area.
Prof Arun Arya, head of Botany department, said: We are going to plant all the trees during monsoon. The university authorities have already granted permission. We want to promote the plantation of indigenous plant species on the campus. While MSU botanical garden has medicinal plants,it is for the first time that the saplings will be planted on such a large scale.
While Prof Goyal was not in the city for his comments,Prof Arya added,MSU Botany department has also been given a project by the Medicinal Plant Board, where we have been asked to improve on the awareness of medicinal plants among people. Our plantation activity will also serve that purpose.
He said: We are doing this project in association with the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). While we are going to take care of beautification of Bhukhi Nalla, the civic body will be responsible for Vishwamitri River.
According to botany experts,Triphala Churan is useful in curing various stomach ailments and purifying the blood. Similarly, amla prevents falling of hair. Triphala is also used to promote appetite and digestion, increase the number of red blood corpuscles and aid in removing the undesirable fats in the body. When dissolved in the mouth,Triphala is used to clear congestion and headaches.
We have been doing medicinal plants exhibitions in Botany department, but common people should be hammered over and over again. Therefore,we have taken up this initiative, added Prof Arya.
