Mahanor to inaugurate literary meet

This was announced at a press conference arranged by the organising committee of the Sammelan on Wednesday. President of the committee Satish Desai said Mahanor would inaugurate the Sammelan.

“Mahanor will also read some of his poems during the inaugural event,” said Desai.

“Besides that we will pay a tribute to Vinda Karandikar,who passed away three days back in the opening ceremony. A VCD on his life and work as well as an audio-visual package of Mahanor himself reading his poems will be shown,” he said.

The row over the issue of inviting cricket champion Sachin Tendulkar to inaugurate the 83rd Sahitya Sammelan has thus come to an end. Vinda Karandikar who was originally slated to open the Sammelan passed away recently.

The Marathi literary circle had slammed the idea of inviting Sachin for inauguration saying Sammelans have become a part of entertainment industry where organisers seek profit from the event.
