Mamata flight makes emergency landing

NEW DELHI: With Railway Minister and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee and party MP Mukul Roy on board,a Kolkata-bound Air India flight — AI-680 — had to return to the IGIA under emergency conditions soon after take-off late Wednesday evening. The flight took off from the Delhi airport at 8.30 pm,but had to return after being air borne for 15 minutes after the pilot suspected a technical snag in the aircraft. The flight landed safely at the Delhi airport at about 9.10 pm. Banerjee,Roy and other passengers were held up at the airport for more than an hour before another plane carrying them left for Kolkata at around 10.45 pm.

22 killed as bus falls into gorge

Dehradun: At least 22 people,including two women and six children,were killed and 24 injured when a bus carrying businessmen and their families fell into a gorge at Kuthalgate area on Dehradun-Mussoorie Road Wednesday night. The passengers had gone to Mussoorie with their family members to celebrate the New Year,Senior Superintendent of Police G S Martolia told PTI,adding that the mishap occurred when the bus,going to Haridwar from Mussoorie,skidded off the road and fell into 50-feet-deep gorge.
