Man accused of molesting Jet airhostess,lands in custody

Brown Augustine D’Souza (56),a Vasai resident,was arrested by the Sahar police around 12.30 am.

According to police,the incident took place around 9.30 pm on board the flight when D’Souza,allegedly under the influence of alcohol,molested an airhostess and behaved rudely with the other staff.

Sub inspector Ganesh Pawar of Sahar police said,“D’Souza who works for a private shipping cargo company in Mumbai inappropriately touched the airhostess on several occasions. He also misbehaved with another airhostess and was abusive when the cabin crew warned him.

“He had gone on a work-related trip to China on a ship around six months ago. He was returning home on Saturday. The airline crew handed him over to us once they landed at Mumbai airport. He was produced before the holiday court,which granted him bail against a surety of Rs 5,000.”

According to the police,the accused had taken a few drinks offered on the flight. “We have sent him for medical tests.”

A Jet Airways spokesperson confirmed the incident. “One of the guests on board our Hong Kong-Mumbai service on Saturday appeared to be in an inebriated state. He was disruptive and abusive. As per national and international procedures,we handed over the individual concerned to the airport security upon arrival at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai.”

A few days ago,three members of Goan football club Churchill Brothers were arrested on charges of outraging a woman’s modesty after they allegedly pushed and teased an airhostess of the Spice Jet flight they were travelling in. They were later released on bail.

Drunken passenger forces flight diversion,offloaded

In another case of passenger misbehaviour onboard an aircraft for the day at Mumbai airport,a drunken passenger was offloaded from Air India’s Dubai-Calicut flight IC 537 and handed over to airport security. The aircraft’s captain was forced to divert the plane to Mumbai and offload the passenger as he created a ruckus on board and allegedly misbehaved with a woman passenger seated behind him.

According to a CISF official,the airline sought permission to land at the Mumbai airport,post which it filed a written complaint against the passenger and offloaded him. “He was allegedly in a drunken state and was caught smoking inside the toilet of the aircraft. When he was confronted by the cabin crew,he created a ruckus inside the aircraft and misbehaved.”

CISF senior commandant J S Negi confirmed the incident. “The airline filed a written complaint against the passenger and based on it,we have now handed him over to the police for further action.”
