Anand Kumar helped Pakistani national Kashif Ali to prepare fake documents, say cops
The Chandigarh Police on Monday arrested one Anand Kumar from Delhi in the spying case involving Pakistani national, Kashif Ali. With this, the number of arrested persons in the case has gone up to four; three passport agents were arrested earlier for preparing fake documents for Pawan Kumar, Kashif’s alias.
A Crime Branch team arrested 32-year-old Kumar for actively aiding Kashif to create a fake identity for the latter. He acted as guarantor to help Kashif open an account with the Syndicate Bank in Delhi, and also provided him with a ration card. All these details were revealed by Kashif during his interrogation. The police said Kumar is being brought to Chandigarh and will be produced in court on Tuesday.
Kumar is a resident of Haiderpur in Delhi and works as a recovery agent with a finance company. According to the police, he met Kashif in Delhi in 2005 when the latter had first come to India on his espionage mission.
Kashif introduced himself as Raj and told Anand that he wanted to open a bank account, but did not have any valid documents. Anand then provided him a ration card issued in the name of Pawan Kumar, his younger brother. Anand even convinced Kashif to change his name to Pawan.
The ration card, which mentions a Pitampura address of Pawan Kumar, was then shown as residence proof by Kashif while opening his bank account; Kumar acted as guarantor, the police said.
