Man with revolver detained during Rahul padyatra

Harikrishan Sharma, who had a licensed .32 bore revolver, was nabbed by SPG personnel accompanying Rahul when he was heading towards the Congress leader’s security cordon.

A youth carrying a licensed revolver was detained when he was trying to move close to AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi during his padyatra in Tappal block on Thursday around 8:30 am.

Harikrishan Sharma, who had a licensed .32 bore revolver, was nabbed by SPG personnel accompanying Rahul when he was heading towards the Congress leader’s security cordon. Sharma was immediately handed over to the police team accompanying the leader. He told the police that he had come from Aligarh and was a resident of Udaipur village.

The UP police claimed that the incident was not a “blatant security breach” and that “proper” security norms have not been followed for the padyatra.

Aligarh SSP Satyendra Vir Singh said,“He (Sharma) is a properly verified person. There is nothing adverse against him in the police records. That is why he was issued a license for his revolver after proper police verification.”
