As he prepares to meet President Barack Obama in Washington, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Saturday that a "sustained and dynamic" Indo-US partnership is essential to meet major global challenges like international terrorism, climate change and economic slowdown.

Singh, who will hold wide-ranging talks with Obama on Tuesday, said India attaches "high priority" to its relations with the US which is today characterized by "greater maturity, depth and convergence of interests".

In a departure statement, Singh said he looked forward to building upon this momentum during the nine-day visit that would also take him to Trinidad and Tobago for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

"The last several years have witnessed a transformation in India-US relations", he said.

Singh, the first foreign leader to be hosted as State Guest by the 10-month-old Obama Administration, has a hectic schedule during his four-day stay in Washington.

The situation in Afghanistan and other regional issues are also expected to figure during his talks with the US leadership, the Prime Minister said.

NO NUCLEAR REACTORS FROM USA PLEASEBy: n.krishna | 23-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward On 29-3-1979, at Pennsylvania's Three Mile Island nuclear plant Unit 2 reactor suffered a partial meltdown in the worst civilian nuclear accident in U.S. history. The reactor core of Unit 2 has since been removed. On 21-11-2009 an estimated 100 workers were contaminated by a radiation leak in the Unit 1 reactor as workers were cutting pipes to remove old steam generators and replace them with new ones. India had a terrible experience with the American supplied Tarapur reactor that contaminated the whole area and resulted in terrible overexposures of DAE staff from all over India, who were sent to Tarapur for repair. After the Three Mile Island nuclear plant Unit 2 reactor meltdown USA stopped construction of new nuclear power stations. What nuclear units producing the electricity are the old plants only. I hope Manmohan will not bring the junk old reactors to India calling it nuclear co operation.
