The Bahujan Samaj Party believes that the Congress has made Meira Kumar the Lok Sabha Speaker just to keep her away from her own people, and also that,in this position, she can do nothing for the welfare of her community.
The BSPs position on Kumars elevation to the Speakers office has been spelled out for the first time in a booklet entitled Dalit Ki Beti Pradhan Mantri Kyon Nahin Ban Payee? Jara Sochiye! which BSP president and UP Chief Minister Mayawati distributed to party leaders from various states on Saturday.
The booklet accuses the BJP and Congress of appointing Dalits to high offices, like those of the President,Vice-President,Speaker,Deputy Speaker and Governor, only to alienate the people of the Dalit community from the BSP. Meira Kumar has been made Speaker of the Lok Sabha in order to keep her away from her own people. In our country, the posts of President,Vice-President,Governor and Speaker are such that the people of the Dalit community occupying them can do no good to the people of their own community, says the booklet.
It adds the parties like the BJP and the Congress may make a Dalit PM for some time, but this is not going to lead to upliftment and progress of Dalits because the real objective of these parties behind such a move will be to alienate the BSPs base.
Describing the Dalit leaders who are given influential positions as mostly the selfish kind, who have nothing to do with the welfare of their own community, the booklet says such leaders behave like bonded labour of these parties.
Alleging the Congress has never allowed Dalits and tribals to remain in positions of influence for long, the booklet says Sushil Kumar Shinde was removed as Maharashtra Chief Minister after the Assembly elections and made Governor of Andhra Pradesh. When the BSP raised its voice, the Congress made him a minister at the Centre, it adds.
The party may have done badly in the Lok Sabha elections, but the booklet speaks of the charisma of Behan Kumari Mayawatiji which created an environment in May 2009 for the BSP getting very close to power in the Centre.
The booklet alleges the Congress,BJP and their allies joined hands to prevent the Dalit ki Beti from becoming Prime Minister, first at the time of the no-confidence vote in the Lok Sabha, and later in the Lok Sabha elections by exploiting caste and religion. As a result, the BSP narrowly missed political power at the Centre, it says.
