Missing girl traced,brought to city: CID tells Calcutta HC

The state CID has finally traced Tahira Khatun-the 16-year-old girl who had gone missing from Kakdwip village in South 24-Parganas in April 2009.

The state CID has finally traced Tahira Khatun the 16-year-old girl who had gone missing from Kakdwip village in South 24-Parganas in April 2009.

Hearing the PIL on the issue of missing women from the state,a Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Jaynarayan Patel of the Calcutta High Court had directed the West Bengal Police on September 17,this year to trace Tahira and produce her in the court on November 12.

But the CID rescued her from Delhi last week and she was brought to Kolkata today.

Niraj Narayan Pandey,Inspector General,CID,told The Indian Express that Tahira is being examined by doctors. He said that a man,Kalam,was arrested last month from Howrah station on charges of trafficking. During interrogation Kalam confessed that he knew the whereabouts of missing Tahira. The CID officials came to know from Kalam that Tahira had been taken to Delhi.

A CID team went to Delhi along with Kalam on December 14,where they arrested his accomplice. Following this,Tahira was rescued from a family where she was working. Pandey also said that the CID officials consulted the state lawyers on the production of Tahira in court. According to a source in the Calcutta High Court,the CID officials are preparing a report on the case.

In May,2009 Johara Bibi,step mother of Tahira had filed a writ petition alleging that the police had not taken proper action to trace her minor daughter.
