In the coming days, the BJP will open yet another front against the UPA government. Having consistently attacked the UPA for misusing the CBI,the party on Sunday gave final shape to a campaign to corner the Congress-led ruling front for what it called the Centres assault on the federal structure. Significantly, the BJP will reach out to non-Congress governments to drum up support in its favour.
As a first step, the national executive gave Gujarat CM Narendra Modi the responsibility to prepare a report detailing the unfair treatment being meted out by the Centre to non-Congress states. The document would form the basis of its campaign. Modi had crossed swords with the UPA several times in the past and it was only logical that he was drafted to spearhead the campaign.
The issue came for discussion at the national executive. Modi highlighted how the UPA government never consulted him while appointing Governors and chief justices of the High Court. The Centre violated established conventions,he said and mentioned the row over GUJCOCA,which has become a bone of contention between state and MHA and misuse of CBI by the Centre.
The BJP had been alleging that the Centre was misusing CBI and demanded a JPC probe into the functioning of the agency yesterday. The party will soon go on an offensive against the Centre.
UPA is plotting new laws to take away states powers. Recommendations of Sarkaria Commission are thrown to the winds. The Centre is misusing the CBI to settle political scores with BJP CMs. Laws passed by Assemblies are being withheld and BJP governments in states are being systematically harassed financially, a resolution passed by the national executive said summing up its campaign theme.
