Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily, who was on Tuesday shifted to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, claimed that there was a campaign by vested interests opposed to his reforms agenda during his tenure at the helm of the Law Ministry. There has been a campaign by vested interests. They knew reform was not pleasant to everybody, which I cant help. I have to do what is in the best interest of the country, Moily told reporters here. He,however, didnt take any names. All these cases which we fail,it is the fault of the administrative ministry. It has got nothing to do with us. We are only the face in the court, he said. Recently, the Supreme Court passed a series of scathing orders, most of them going against the Centre. Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniums sudden decision to put in his papers in protest against the decision to replace him with a private counsel to represent Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, also resulted in loss of face for the government. To a question on whether he viewed his shifting as a demotion,Moily said: I am not slighted. Nobody can do so to Moily. It is media creation. No department is small. Corporate Affairs deals with the business world,it is the ministry of the future. A visibly upset Moily, who will take charge as Corporate Affairs Minister on Wednesday, said he had undertaken a series of unprecedented reforms in the Law Ministry and schemes worth Rs 21,000 crore were under implementation. I am very proud of what I have done. It is unprecedented. But,our agenda for fastest and inclusive justice was not appreciated by the conservatives, he said. Moily also attacked the media, accusing it of sometimes being blind to the situation and reality.
