Kolkata: Within 24 hours of the withdrawal of eight police camps in Lalgarh by the state government, several roads in neighbouring Goaltore were dug up by the tribal protestors on Friday.

Hundreds of protestors dug up roads and laid blockade in Goaltore, cutting off the area from rest of the district, said the police.

District police chief Rajesh Singh said no step has been taken against the agitators because the Government had asked the district police to refrain from undertaking any police action in the area.

The state government once again appealed to the protestors to resolve the issue through talks.

A statement issued by the government on Friday said locals are facing trouble due to the agitation and prices of essential commodities have soared. “The protestors are raising unjust issues to continue their protest,” read the statement.

In another development, Jharkhand Disam Party began its two-day bandh in various parts of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia protesting against the alleged police atrocities on the tribals. The bandh evoked a mixed response. Normal life was disrupted in Jhargram sub-division, said the police.
