The bodies of a woman and her four children found floating in a river 13 km from Bhiwandi in Thane District have left the police flummoxed. The police have not found a suicide note,and have said that at this juncture foul play could not be ruled out,though no evidence to suggest it was available.
The deceased have been identified as Kamta Kane (37),her daughters Deepali (14) and Mayuri (9),and sons Sagar (12) and Sahil (6). Inspector General of Police Parambir Singh said,There is a possibility that the five may have drowned.
The police have registered an accidental death report and sent the bodies for post-mortem. SP Rajeshkumar Mor said that there were no wound marks on the victims. The police have,however,sent a vaginal swab of one of the victims for chemical analysis to check the possibility of sexual assault.
The five had gone missing from their house at Pundas village in Bhiwandi taluka of Thane district on Monday evening. Their bodies were found floating in Kamavari river by a team of local residents,led by Kamtas husband Naresh Kane,who is employed at the Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation,at around 9:30 am on Tuesday.
