Abhishek Yadav scored a breathtaking 89th minute goal to clinch Mumbai FC a thrilling 3-2 win against JCT in their I-League match at Cooperage on Wednesday. Mumbai FC manager Henry Menezes had promised excitement against the Punjab outfit, but 2-0 down after just 10 minutes, he would have had his heart in his mouth. JCT’s constant early pressure reaped rewards in the 19th minute as Balwant Singh lobbed a ball over the Mumbai FC defence. JCT’s Brazilian import Eduardo then made up for a first-half miss by finding the back of the net having found himself one-on-one against goalkeeper Amit Singha Roy and the visitors were 2-0 up. Coach David Booth brought in Abel Hammond and Anees Kutty straight after the second goal and the midfield sparked into life. Hammond headed in from a Kalia Kulothungan back-header within minutes of his entry. The equaliser wasn’t too long coming, as Ahmed Felix Aboagye headed in a Kamaljeet Kumar corner. JCT had a great chance to seal the issue 10 minutes before the final whistle, when Balwant hit the post with only Roy to beat. And the visitors had to pay a heavy price for that miss, as Yadav first headed the ball onto his feet, took a couple of seconds to gauge the situation, and then fired, straight over Karanjeet and straight into the back of the net, handing his team a remarkable victory and a crucial three points. “We decided to go for it in the second half as we were desperate to win this match after four consecutive draws,” Yadav said. Mumbai are in sixth place, with 16 points, while JCT dropped down to 10th. Dempo beat EBMargao: Climax Lawerence struck a crucial goal in the second half to help Dempo edge past East Bengal. The goal came in the 78th minute when a move between Roberto Mendes de Silva and Ranty Martins saw the latter play a pass to Lawrence into the box, who shot into the net. The win takes Dempo to fourth place with 17 points. East Bengal remain seventh with 12.
