NABI inks pact with Canadian university

The National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute,Mohali,on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with University of Saskatchewan in Canada.

The National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI),Mohali,on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Saskatchewan in Canada outlining the mutual research and academic interests in the fields of agri-food,biotechnology,and engineering areas.

Both institutions will be engaged in strengthening partnership activities,developing mobility plans for student,faculty and staff exchanges in the selected areas of mutual interest,said NABI Executive Director Dr Rakesh Tuli.

He said the purpose of this MoU was to encourage the long term and short term exchanges of faculty for purposes of research and to promote friendship between the two Universities for their mutual benefits.

“NABI and University of Saskatchewan recognize the value of research experiences that integrate theory and practice their respective organizations besides encouraging and welcoming the exchange faculty,” he said. The principal purposes of any such visits will be to deliver lectures and seminars,to engage in collaborative research and development in areas of common interest,and to explore mutual projects and the means to support them.

Excited to embark on this new journey in India,Genome Prairie,who signed the MoU on behalf of the University of Saskatchewan,said,“The opportunities that exist between India and Canada,and the role genomics sciences will help us achieve better health,cleaner environments and economic prosperity for future generations.”

“National Research Council,Plant Biotechnology Institute,Saskatoon in Canada,is also very pleased to continue the advancement of its relationship with India,which was initiated under its MoU with Union Department of Biotechnology,New Delhi.

The agreement with NABI represents an exciting opportunity for Canada,Saskatchewan and India to capitalize on our common interests in crops genomics,cluster development and plant based products,” he added.
