For the first time after eight months,the primary court hall in the Karnataka High Court saw a flurry of activities on Monday with the new Chief Justice,J S Khehar,taking official charge.

Hundreds of lawyers and litigants thronged to the prestigious Court Hall 1 in the morning to watch the functioning of the new Chief Justice,and returned largely impressed with the firm and fair demeanor that Chief Justice Khehar presented during a small speech and then through the process of hearing of cases.

The charm of the first court in the High Court is a unique one and a good Chief Justice is integral to that. Just having a good man there is half the battle won. Lawyers dont mind a judge who argues with them but judges who dont listen is what bothers them. A healthy discussion is always good. I think the Karnataka High Court is back on its way to being a good place to practice law, said a senior High Court counsel who was among those who watched Chief Justice Khehar function.

Justice Khehar comes to the Karnataka HC after the court had been through a tumultous two-year period with former Chief Justice P D Dinakaran facing an impeachment motion.
