The new director of Pune International Airport,PSRK Sudhakar,on Monday said one of his priorities would be to pursue the request with the Indian Air Force for providing prime morning slots to the domestic airlines.
Sudhakar,who was posted as a general manager (engineering projects) at Madurai Airport took the charge of director of Pune Airport on Monday. While talking to The Indian Express,he said upgrading the facilities for passengers comfort would also be a priority for him.
Presently,domestic airlines cannot use the runway for three to four hours in the morning as the Air Force uses it for regular exercises. However,the morning slots are considered prime ones for domestic operations. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has formally requested the Air Force to keep a time slot in the morning open for civil operations. I will be pursuing the matter with Air Force officials, he said.
Sudhakar said the terminal building was recently expanded and he would see to it that passengers get the best facilities at the airport. There are 8 aprons available for parking. I will also look into increasing the parking bays, he said.
Before coming to Pune,he was looking after the work of new international terminal building at Madurai,which was completed and commissioned in September 2010. Sudhakar completed MTech in transportation systems from IIT-Kanpur in 1982 and did BTech from Andhra University,Vizag,in 1980.
