  • The government on Monday ruled out importing wheat this year as procurement of the foodgrain is all set to reach 20 million tonne against the targeted 15 million tonne for the current marketing season. “Though we have a target of 150 lakh tonne, we will reach at 200 lakh tonne. If we reach at 200 lakh tonne, import will not be required. There is no question,” agriculture and food minister Sharad Pawar said. The minister said he had discussed with all the state governments and Food Corporation of India regarding wheat procurement and the assessment is based on their feedback. Pawar added that the nation’s wheat procurement has reached 18.5 million tonne till last week.
