  • Incredible India is set to make its mark in Beijing. The Tourism Ministry has drawn up a plan to reach out to a wider international audience by organising ‘India evenings’ and a month-long advertising campaign in China and some other countries during the Olympics.

The ministry will be running advertising campaigns in important subway stations and junctions in Beijing with specially designed and illuminated images and creatives, apart from publishing advertisements in major newspapers, including China Daily and South China Post. The occasion would also coincide with the Indian Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

The Ministry will hold an India Evening on August 16, 2008 in co-operation with the Embassy of India where the best of Indian culture and cuisine will be showcased. Invitees would include media persons, major Chinese tour operators, as well as members of the delegation of the India contingent participating in the Olympic Games.

Other proposed events include an exhibition of Indian handicrafts and textiles and a photographic exhibition on India by Dr Mao Xiaoyu, a renowned photographer who has lived and travelled extensively in India.

“The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games have provided an unparalleled opportunity to promote the profile of Incredible India worldwide and showcase India as a tourism destination to a large international audience. We don’t want to miss out on it at any cost,” said Tourism Joint Secretary Leena Nandan.

According to her, the Tourism Ministry, through the India tourism office in Beijing, will be launching widespread promotional activities in Beijing to bring Incredible India in focus, during this important international event to take advantage of the large number of participants, visitors and media representatives present at the Beijing Olympics.
