He is the one to introduce the city to the immaculate ways of wine tasting and what adds to his repertoire is a whole new assortment of culinary skills to compliment the delectable experience of a wine tasting festival. And with every passing year his ambitions soar high and so do the expectations from the two-year-old wine tasting festival that in its third year is all set to push its boundaries further. For the founder and moderator of Pune Gourmet Club and the brain behind city’s first ever complete wine tasting festival B Shakarnarayan does push the boundaries of the festival, literally. Pune’s very own wine tasting festival will be held in Mumbai for the first time ever. While the festival goes to Mumbai its Pune counterpart matures well. The festival that was held on weekends, this year will be a month-long experience for the wine lovers who craved for more. “For last two years the festival was held during weekends just for two days. But this time it will be held for a month,” says Shakarnarayan

A germ of thought that was to make people aware of the nitty-gritty’s of wine tasting became a thought process that had a lot of creative culinary thinking in store. From cooking with wine show to how to create a visual appeal to food and a number food items not listed on the al la carte of even one of the most chic and expensive restaurants in the city, the thought becomes intense this time. “We have multiple and satellite events in store this time. Apart from the popular features we will be holding interactions with winemakers during dinner where people can enjoy food and lear as well. This was one of the most desired activities by the wine lovers so we thought we will put it across,” he says.

A connoisseur of culinary delights,Shakarnarayan could not have taken a plunge into this, had it not been for his better half’s support. “The festival is not a money making venture. When we started it,we had to put money from our own pockets too. Sheela,my wife who herself is an excellent cook did not crib about it. She supported me and the festival throughout,” he says. Sheela Narayan who manages the team handling the reception desk for the festival had no qualms about her husband’s investment into his passion. “I know when you are running a family you want to stay secure but with Shankar his regular profession that deals with the music industry did not consume much time. So when he said he wants to start this I was more than glad. A no profit venture if gives gratification to him,he should and also I knew it was a unique and novel thing he was doing so I always stood by his side,” she smiles.
