Ramesh Nambiar,additional general manager of Air India,was arrested on Monday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) corruption scandal. According to sources in the CBI,Nambiar was responsible for striking deals with foreign suppliers and money transactions through hawala for former director general of OFB,Sudipta Ghosh. Ghosh,the main conspirator in this case,reportedly struck his maximum deals from Delhi. He is already under arrest since May 19.
Sources said Nambiar organised meetings for Ghosh at various hotels in Delhi and at a place in Gagan Vihar. He acted as a conduit on behalf of Ghosh. He also helped Ghosh to launder ill-gotten money through hawala, said Harsh Bhal,CBI spokesperson.
Nambiar is presently under CBI custody and will be produced before the court so that he can be taken to Kolkata on a transit remand. On Monday,the CBI recovered Rs 1.29 lakh cash from his briefcase.
