Over 60 per cent of voters turned out on Saturday in by-elections to one Lok Sabha and 31 Assembly seats spread over seven states. The bypolls were by and large peaceful.

Sporadic incidents of violence and group clashes were reported from Firozabad Lok Sabha constituency where Dimple Yadav, daughter-in-law of Samajwadi party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is contesting, and Rari Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh. A turnout of 53.5 per cent was recorded at Ferozabad. An average of 49.37 per cent turnout was recorded in the 11 Assembly seats in the state, with Lucknow (West) recording the lowest turnout at 28 percent.

In West Bengal, a turnout of 65 per cent was recorded in the by-elections to 10 Assembly seats while over 75 per cent voters turned up was recorded in Kannur, Ernakulam and Alappuzha Assembly constituencies in Kerala.

In Rohru and Jawali Assembly seats of Himachal, about 68 per cent polling was recorded.

Bypolls to Vaishali Nagar Assembly seat in Chhattisgarh, Salumber and Todabheem in Rajasthan and Salmara South and Dhekiajuli in Assam were also held. Counting of votes will be taken up on November 10.
