With an eye on overcoming the irritants in its relations with Bangladesh,New Delhi and Dhaka are working overtime to fine tune a string of high-profile visits by top Indian leadership Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,Congress president Sonia Gandhi,External Affairs Minister S M Krishna and Water Resources Minister Salman Khursheed in the next two months. Krishna starts the high-level diplomatic engagement this week and the PM is scheduled to visit on September 6-7.
Dhaka is extremely excited at the prospect of Sonias visit later this month. Sources said Sonia has confirmed her availability for the Dhaka trip, which is scheduled on July 25.
The occasion is an international conference on women’s leadership there, which will be attended by Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina. An invitation has been extended by Hasina’s daughter Saima Wajed to Priyanka Vadra to accompany her mother.
The attempt from Dhaka, sources said,is to carry forward the links between Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Indira Gandhi to the next generation. In this context,a citation from Bangladesh is being planned for Indira Gandhi for her key role in its formation.
