Kumar says he met Ali after 5 years, was introduced to him by a common friend in Delhi
Suspected Pakistani spies Kashif Ali alias Pawan Kumar and Anand Kumar were sent to 14 days’ judicial custody by a local court on Thursday.
The police said they have taken photographs and handwriting specimen of Ali and would sent them to their counterparts in places where he lived to get further clues. The police had recovered classified documents from Ali, including information of the defence installations such as Indian Army’s Western Command headquarters at Chandimandir and Air Force station.
During investigation, the co-accused in the case, Anand Kumar, told the police that he came in touch with Ali through a common friend Payal. He said he met Ali in 2005 who was looking for a job. Kumar who worked as a recovery agent for a private financier got Ali a job. Since Ali had the money, around $800, Kumar had agreed to let him live in his house.
After living with Kumar for around one and a half months and using his brothers identity to get his bank account opened, Ali went missing.
Police said it was in Delhi at Kumar’s house the duo hatched a conspiracy of spying. Though Kumar was not aware of the entire plan, he had accommodated Ali since he had money and spend it on him.
On July 10, Ali was arrested by the Chandigarh Police after a tip-off. He had been living in the city for the last three years and for documentary proof had a driving license made in Delhi, a ration card, bank accounts, PAN card and a passport. Police also recovered a video camera from his possession which has information related to the Army.
