Delivering the inaugural lecture on the challenges faced by world peace, noted Pakistani litterateur Fakhar Zaman, president of the World Punjabi Centre and Chairman of the Pakistan Academy of Letters, called upon writers, artists and intellectuals to fight a united battle against the multi-layered terrorist groups engaged in covert brutal and sadistic activities.
The seminar was organised by the World Punjabi Centre at the Punjabi University on Thursday.
Zaman stressed upon the idea for raising a common platform of affirmative people to dismantle the nefarious designs of the negative forces.
While lamenting the negative role played by the media, Zaman said though Pakistan was passing through a period of turmoil, clouds of suffering and agony would vanish soon.
In his presidential address, university Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh said the present phase of neo-globalisation, which tends to promote materialistic and commercial tendencies among the masses, was the most dangerous challenge and threat to global peace.
Director of the World Punjabi Centre, Dr Deepak Manmohan Singh, said Punjabi writers and artists should adopt a proactive approach to fight the destructive forces.
The Centre has drawn both short-term and long-term plans to promote Punjabi in all its dimensions, he added.
