  • Dayanand Pandey alias Sudhakar Dwivedi alias Mahant Amritanand has told the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) that he exchanged letters with Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Col Prasad Shrikant Purohit after the September 29 Malegaon blast. The letters, sent by conventional post to get around possible surveillance of their email and phone lines, were written in code, Pandey has told his interrogators.

An ATS team will soon reach Kanpur to look for evidence of this correspondence, sources in the Uttar Pradesh ATS told The Indian Express. A joint team of the two ATSes will search the homes of Pandey’s brother Pushkar Dwivedi in Kanpur’s Rawatpur neighbourhood, and of a disciple in Paniyara town of UP’s Maharajganj district bordering Nepal.

Pandey was arrested from Pushkar Dwivedi’s home on November 12. The UP ATS has been watching both addresses since their Maharashtra counterparts told them about Pandey’s revelations and the possibility of finding documents related to the Malegaon blast at these places.

It is also learnt that the UP Police team investigating the August 24 Kanpur blast has gone through the details of Pandey’s interrogation, and found that several names mentioned by him match with those of suspects in the Kanpur blast. Whatever documents are found during searches at the Rawatpur and Paniyara addresses will be shared with them, UP ATS sources said.

ATSBy: Sunda | 19-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward in tamil we have something called "petthal" meaning blabbering. ATS is doing exactly that. If they had evidence, they would have filed a chrge sheet by now. This is exactly what jayalalitha did with shankaracharya. Arrested him and then hounded everybody who associated with him. ATS is doing it now to corner the BJP. Premkumar the investigating officer in the shankaracharya case is a nobody now. ATS will be better advised to learn from that. At the end of the day, the case has to come to court, we will see what happens there. There ATS should walk the talk and corroborate their calculated leaks. God Save India.
Unnecessary disclosure of plansBy: Imran Ansari | 19-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward What kind of investigation is this where in the interrogating agencies are opening their cards as to what next they plan to do and where? This gives an opportunity of the near and dear ones of the accused to tamper with evidence thereby helping him. I'm surprised.
ATS forgets the basicsBy: Johney | 19-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward What is happening? ATS spreads the news that they will search the evidence soon. If these things are true, why are they giving these sensitive news to the newspaper. It should be better if a news come saying that the ATS searched the evidence, not ATS is going to search for evidence from Kanpur. Are they trying to give enough time to destroy the evidence? Either ATS is forgetting the basics or they are playing a game.
