Shopkeepers given 15 days to remove unauthorised advertisments
Regulation of parking, installation of CCTV cameras and removal of unauthorised advertisements — these are some of the measures that will be acted upon to spruce up markets in the city.
In a meeting held today under the chairmanship of UT Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar, it was decided that changes would soon be visible in the markets of sector 7, 8, 9, 19, 21 and 26. These would be converted into modern markets, free from encroachments, having open spaces for regulated parking, regulated advertisement and clean passages and corridors.
Representatives of the various associations attending the meeting were exhorted to join hands with the Administration to accomplish the goal. The meeting was attended by the Chairperson of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal Charanjiv Singh and presidents and general secretaries of various market associations along with the senior officials.
It was deliberated that market associations will employ 4-5 persons for regulating parking while a constable will be deployed to mark the presence of the law enforcement agency and take penal action against violators. The step would help in the better enforcement of the parking norms in the markets.
Shop owners have been given a time period of 15 days for removing the irregular advertisements and restrict advertisements to the designated places. They were also asked not to deface pillars or walls with any form of advertisement.
