  • After the unprecedented terrorist attack on Mumbai's prime landmarks, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh discussed the operation, casualties, and the likely security fall-out of the events of the last three days with top Defence and Home Ministry officials.

Singh held a lengthy two-and-half-hour discussion with Defence Minister A K Antony and officers from the armed forces and the intelligence agencies on ways to prevent recurrences of such terror attacks, government sources said.

However, Home Minister Shivraj Patil was missing at the top-notch meet, as he was not called for the meeting, the sources added, indicating that the PM could be ‘cut up about Patil's handling of the Mumbai terror crisis’.

The 60-hour-long fierce battle in the western metropolis had left 195 dead and 295 injured at important locations including Taj Hotel, Oberoi Trident, Nariman House and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.

Singh called the meeting at 1300 hours to review the security situation in view of the attacks for which the terrorists had apparently come via the sea route into India's commercial capital and caused havoc to prime property, including the 105-year-old Taj Hotel.

Among others, who attended the meeting, were Defence Secretary Vijay Singh, Navy Chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta, IAF Chief Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major, Army Vice-Chief Lt Gen M L Naidu, and Intelligence Bureau Chief P C Haldar.

Terrorism how to deal with itBy: CNNwatcher | 30-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Watching on CNN - India must establish a secret service agency to combat all forms of terrorism. India should take offensive actions NOT defensive, and go after these training camps, annihilate them with or without Pakistan's approval, strike at them before they strike India. NOW is the time to take action, don't wait. Israel made sure they killed all the terrorists who killed their athletes during Olympics in 1970s, they pursed and killed them one by one. If you wait, this will happen again and again. India needs a new secret service agency to counter Pakistan's ISI with much greater power, this is the only way to get rid of the menace. Hopefully the new government in Pakistan will also do some thing to get rid of the terrorists, but India should not wait for this to happen, it should pursue and act on its own. Pakistan is the home of many terrorists, who are engaged all over the world. India's police are not fit, they are only good for giving traffic tickets.
Chicken without head = PM MMSinghBy: Jatin Patel | 29-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward OK, but we already know that PM will not take Pakistan to war. We also know that PM will only talk peace talks with Pakistan for remaining of his term and for his next term if (not gonna happen) he gets elected again.

Reduce security for -All- PoliticansBy: sonia | 29-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Reduce the number of policemen guarding 'VIPs' and use them for regular law and order and security of citizens. If politicians are feeling insecure, let them stay at home
