The written examination for the biggest-ever induction into the constabulary of the Uttar Pradesh Police was held peacefully at 406 centres in 18 districts of the state on Sunday. The written examination was held peacefully across the state, said Kamal Saksena,IG,UP Police Recruitment & Promotion Board. The Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment & Promotion Board made arrangements to get the answer sheets scanned today. The list of qualified candidates will be declared on Monday morning,while the final merit list will be released in a week. The two-hour test had 160 objective questions worth 200 marks from mathematics,general knowledge,logic and aptitude. Twenty five centers were allotted in Lucknow for candidates from Saharanpur and Moradabad range,53 centres were allotted in Allahabad while Meerut had 47 centres. Closed-circuit cameras were installed at the range headquarters where answer sheets were scanned. Praveen,a candidate from Muzaffarnagar,said: I expect no irregularity or corruption as the government has adopted a fool-proof process this time. The police,meanwhile,raided a primary school campus in Jaunpur on Sunday and arrested 27 people,including 16 candidates,their guardians and a tout for their alleged involvement in a fraud related to the examination. Superintendent of Police,Jaunpur,Ram Bharose said: The arrested tout,Achche Lal and three of his associates,had called the candidates promising to provide them with solved question papers of the exam. Bharose added: Each candidate had been called with original certificates of qualification and a token amount of Rs 5,000. Candidates had to pay Rs 2 lakh after passing the exam. Lal,a resident of Nahora village in Jaunpur,was arrested from the spot while his three associates Bedi Ram of Jalalpur,Hariom of Birbalpur and Ram Asrey of Jalalpur managed to give the police a slip. The arrested candidates belong to Jaunpur,Chandauli,Azamgarh and Mau districts. The police recovered Rs 20,000 in cash,13 certificates offered as proof of educational qualification and three admit cards from Lal. Ten mobile phones,two SUVs,one Tata Indica Car and 9-motor cycles were also recovered from the spot. An FIR under charges of fraud was lodged in the matter. The board had received 7.5 lakh applications for 35,000 posts of constables. Over 2.25 lakh candidates had qualified for Sundays written examination after clearing the Physical Standard Test,Physical Endurance Test and medical test.
