Pranab, Qureshi in city today

  • Union Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi will be in Chandigarh on Thursday to attend the International Conference on Cooperative Development, Peace and Security in South Asia.

    The three-day conference will be organised at the Centre for Rural Research and Industrial Development.

    There will be an inaugural address by Pranab Mukherjee, followed by the Pakistan minister’s speech. The first session, commencing in the afternoon, will include presentations and interactive sessions of Qureshi with the representatives of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Punjab Exports. Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will host a dinner in Qureshi’s honour on Thursday night.

    The second session on November 28 will have discussions on ‘Trade and Investment’, followed by deliberations on 'Connectivity and Power Infrastructure' in the third session. The day will end after the fourth session, during which participants will discuss ‘Democracy and SAARC'. The concluding session on November 29 will see a discussion on ‘SAARC and its future.’
