  • Protesting the alleged discrimination against SC/OBC students in the distribution of books under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, members of 18 organisations on Wednesday under the banner of Joint Action Front took out a protest march here.

The procession attended by students and teachers, after passing through the main markets of the town, culminated in a rally addressed by many leaders of different organisations.

A memorandum was presented to the SDM at the rally for the Punjab chief minister.

The protesters have alleged discrimination against SC students, who were provided sub-standard study material and old edition free books under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan scheme. Their demands included new books and equal attention for the poor and needy students. The government was also accused of infusing a feeling of inferiority among the SC/BC students.
