Condemning the views expressed by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at Bhopal recently, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Hardeep Singh has termed Bhagwat’s statement as a “blot on the multi-cultural Indian society”.

The RSS chief had reportedly said those who were Indians were Hindus and if one was not a Hindu he could not be an Indian. “The RSS always works on the agenda of converting India into a Hindu nation by assimilating the multi-religious fabric of democratic and secular India,” Singh said in a statement issued here today.

Reacting to Bhagwat’s comments that “Hinduism is not a religion but a way of life”,the SGPC member said,“The narrow Brahmanical philosophy of the RSS has divided Indian society. This theory had suppressed minorities and weaker sections of society for centuries, and even today the RSS hatches conspiracies against us.”

The SGPC member said the fifth Sikh guru had made it clear in Gurbani that,“neither we are Hindus nor Muslims” and Bhagwat must understand that though “we are not Hindus,India is our country and we are as much Indians as Hindus”.

Dubbing the RSS and other parties toeing its path as “anti-Sikh,anti-minorities and anti-all existing religions”,Singh asked the RSS chief not to disintegrate the country and society by issuing communal statements.

He also strongly demanded that Article 25 of the Constitution be amended so that Sikhism is not “engulfed into” Hinduism in future and a separate Sikh marriage act be implemented immediately.
