RWAs join hands for stronger Lokpal Bill

With issues of water, parking and civic amenities giving headaches to residential colonies from time to time

With issues of water, parking and civic amenities giving headaches to residential colonies from time to time, the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) of the city also joined hands to demand a stronger Lokpal Bill.

According to representatives,RWAs deal with corruption at government offices on a daily basis and so the focus of the Lokpal Bill should also be the removal of corruption from the lower rungs of bureaucracy.

RWAs have drafted a resolution to be forwarded to the Prime Minister, demanding a stronger Jan Lokpal Bill as suggested by Team Anna. “The present government’s Lokpal Bill has several clauses that are detrimental to RWAs and NGOs,who take up the issue of corruption from time to time,“ said Rajiv Kakria of GK-I RWA.

“The most scary provision of the government’s draft is that if a citizen complains against an officer.

The officer has a right to file a counter complaint against his accuser in court. If the accuser fails to prove, then he can be jailed for two years,” claimed Kakria.

Apart from holding candle light vigils, some RWAs on Thursday organised rallies at Bhikaji Cama place and South Extension.
