RWAs rope in other groups to protest tariff hike

Many Resident Welfare Associations across Delhi are protesting the recent power tariff hike announced by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission

Many Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) across Delhi are protesting the recent power tariff hike announced by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC). They are now roping in other organisations, such as the Delhi Medical Association,to support them.

Delhi Medical Association president Dr Vinod Khetrapal said,“At least 15,000 doctors of the Delhi Medical Association are supporting the protest because the electricity tariff hike will affect everyone. Eventually, the cost of treatment will also increase.”

The association head also said the hike was “not justified”,and the discoms should concentrate more on checking power theft rather than increasing the power tariff.

Rajeev Kakaria from the Greater Kailash-1 RWA said all the associations will be presenting a joint resolution to the Delhi Chief Minister on the tariff hike soon.

“We will go to every MLA,MLC,MP and even the candidates who lost the last elections, and ask them to support our campaign,” said Rajeev.

Besides demanding a rollback of the recent power tariff hike, they will also seek a 30 per cent reduction.

“We are requesting everyone to deduct 22 per cent of their billed amount,” he said.

The RWAs are saying that they will keep the protest going all month,if need be.

“We will also approach various colonies and organisations for educating them and seeking their support,” Kakaria said.
