Asserting that US has an equally important relationship with India as that with Beijing, a top Obama Administration official has said there is no need for New Delhi to be concerned over the reference to the Indo-Pak ties in a US-China joint statement.

"I don't think there needs to be any concern in India about what the president said in China. We have very important relations with China. But we have equally important relations with India," the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Robert Blake, told reporters at a news briefing.

And I think that will come out very clearly during the course of the Prime Minister's visit next week he told reporters at a news briefing.

Welcoming China's interest in helping to stabilise the Afghanistan and Pakistan region, Blake said the Obama Administration believe that China has important equities, particularly in Afghanistan, where they have very significant investments.

"As with most of the other countries in the world, we welcome China's participation in helping to stabilise that very important part of the region," he said.

As for Indo-Pak relationship, Blake reiterated the view point of the Obama Administration that it is for India and Pakistan to decide on the substance, scope and pace of their relationship.

"We've always said, in terms of Indo-Pakistan relations, that's really up to India and Pakistan to decide how and when and the scope of that," he added. As friends to both of those countries, we have always encouraged both countries to meet and to try to narrow their differences, he said.

Obama is a disgraceBy: Rajeev Kumar | 13-Dec-2009 Reply | Forward I don't know who I will be voting for next time but I certainly will not make the mistake of voting for this Chinese slave Barack Hussein Osama again. He's the first US president to not meet with the Dalai Lama, what a disgrace. And they have repeatedly insulted us again by asserting that democratic India should simply roll over and be happy with a stupid dinner while brutal China and terrorist Pakistan get the power and the money courtesy of the US. That snob event was not done for us, it was for his donors and for him to be able to pretend that we have a reason to trust him, even as he refuses the n-deal and keeps the world's largest democracy at the top of the dual use material ban list. But actions speak louder than words. Bush was a man of action and Obama is a man of words. Bush may have been a terrible president but he knew the difference between a democracy and a brutal dictatorship. Obama is the biggest mistake we have ever made.

US India RelationsBy: Sandeep | 21-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Obama is merely looking after US interests by pleasing China. Immature, naive...foolish. China is not foolish to take heed of such ill conceived ideas.India needs to take a lesson home though about real politiks.
Obama and ChinaBy: Anant | 20-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I think that what Obama said is Obama's thinking only and not American. America has never liked communism and there is no reason now to change American mind. Obama follows Gandhian phylosophy where everyone should be respected. Unfortunately the world has changed and any nice action is seen to be sign of weakness. Obama is showing a lot of weakness and making America weak. India should not mind if Obama's America wants to be friends with China or even with a devil. America has to decide for their friends or foes. Countries usually don't have friends or enemies but just relationships that can change with time. If USA talks nicely to China it does not mean they can't have a relationship with India or any other country. However Obama had no business to discuss or interfere in India's internal affairs. Obama is still rookie and has a lot to learn world politics.
nice commentBy: Apurva | 07-Dec-2009 Reply | Forward Nice comment Anant. I agree. I think that america can have the best relations with any country. But Obama should not get involved in the internal conflicts of other countries or try to get anyone else involved like he did with India and Pakistan, by getting China involved. Though I think that peace is good if achieved between India and Pakistan, but China is not a country anyone can really rely on to do this as they have interests of their own.
USA Bad tactics on IndiaBy: Zoma | 20-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Obama is having some other intentions on india, we should never trust them.... we need to move towards Russia our natural friend... USA encouraging China to keep Inida in check... We should have not given obama that much importance. We should be on our own.
