Repairs over, localities complain of yellow water

A day after the civic administration claimed to have repaired the twin Tansa pipeline burst at Nana Chowk junction, parts of South Mumbai are getting contaminated water with a yellow tinge.

According to officials from the Hydraulic Engineer department of BMC,the work of repairing the pipelines at Nana Chowk is complete, but the adjoining drainage lines got damaged in the process and this resulted in contamination. “We will survey the areas getting yellow water within the next 24 hours and also check the water pipelines,” said a civic official. Residents have been complaining of yellow coloured foul smelling water for the past few days in areas such as Tardeo,Tulsiwadi and Haji Ali,Thakurdwar,Dhobi Talao,Girgaum,Babulnath,Mumbai Central,Maulana Shaukat Ali Road and Patthe Bapurao Marg,Nair Hospital,Mahalaxmi Railway Yard,Grant Road and Mumbai Central railway.

“After the pipeline burst, the water supply in our area has deteriorated. Initially, there was no supply for a day,but now it has been more than a week that we are getting dirty water in our homes,” said Nandkishore Gala, resident of Tardeo.

On October 30,the 1450-mm Tansa (West) water main pipeline had burst at Nana Chowk. Two days later, another Tansa (East) pipeline running adjacent to it burst. It took the civic administration almost a week to detect the source of leakages and solve the problem.
