Chris Rogers, who scored a neat 60 for ACT XI against India in the tour game in Canberra, was called up as cover for injured opener Matthew Hayden in the 12-man Australian squad for the third Test, beginning here on January 16. According to a Cricket Australia statement today, “the National Selection Panel confirmed opening batsman Chris Rogers has been added to the squad of 12 for the third Test versus India as a ‘shadow player’ for Matthew Hayden. Rogers will train with the squad from tomorrow.”
Australia team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said Hayden took part in the team training today and would continue with the recovery programme on his hamstring. He said the team management would take a decision about his fitness and availability closer to game. Hayden picked up the injury during the Sydney Test.
