Rounds of discussion put Chandigarh international airport on the fast track

It was also decided in the meeting that the ILS system should be installed at the airport to facilitate flying at night and during inclement weather.

The officials were told that it will take at least three months before the system was in place,as a lot of wiring work was required. The issue of acquisition of land for a taxiway was also discussed.

The directors were also of the view that a local officer,of the executive or general manager rank,should be appointed to look after the project and coordinate with both the Punjab and Haryana governments.

At present,office of the Chandigarh Airport Director has been declared the company office.

An official said,“The initial building and design plans have been prepared by the AAI and are likely to be tabled before the next board meeting,which is expected to take place in the next fortnight. Then only more discussions will be held and a plan could be finalised.”

In the meeting,SC Chattwal was elected the chairman of the Joint Venture company. The members are Executive Director (Planning) AAI Rajeha,Company Secretary AAI MC Kishore,Director Civil Aviation Alok Sekhar,Financial Commissioner (Civil Aviation) Haryana Sameer Mathur,Secretary (Civil Aviation) Punjab Vishvajeet Khanna,besides others.
