The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata police are now searching for four accomplices of the Bangladeshi nationals who were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged terror links.
The STF had arrested three Bangla nationals — Md Abdullahil Baki, Md Tahidur alias Madhu and Abdur Rehaman alias Nafis Zafar — whom they claim are members of the Shahid Bilal group, a terrorist outfit in Pakistan. During interrogation, the alleged terrorists told the STF officials that they have four other members in their team who reached India on Tuesday.
“We have information that two of them, who are still moving freely in the country, are Bangladeshi nationals and the other two are Indians belonging to the Murshidabad district. They probably had plans to launch terror attacks in Hyderabad as they have confessed that they were going to Hyderabad after visiting Malda,” said Rajeev Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, STF. A senior STF officer said that as per intelligence inputs, two persons — Kanchan and Piplu — were waiting for the arrested terrorists to hand over explosives at the Malda-Bangladesh border.
A team from Hyderabad police today reached the city to take them on remand for interrogation in connection with the ‘fidayeen’ attack at the STF office in Hyderabad on October 12, 2005.
The STF officials have now decided to bring Zahid to Kolkata for interrogation. Zahid, a member of the HuJI, was arrested by the BSF on April 26 while crossing the border. An official, said that a few detonator sticks and a good quantity of explosive powder have been recovered from them.
