Sania Mirza’s women’s doubles campaign came to a halt afer she and her Australian partner Alicia Molik failed to stand up to the challenge of Victoria Azarenka of Belarua and Israel’s Shahar Peer.
Mirza and Molik lost this third round match, 5-7, 3-6.
Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles earned a quarter final slot in the men’s doubles and a match-up with the top seeded Bryan twins, Bob and Mike. Bhupathi and Knowles defeated the Polish duo of Mariusz Frystenberg and Marcin Matkowski in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Rohan Bopanna and Rajeev Ram, who had upset fifth seeds Leander Paes and Paul Hanley earlier, fell to South Africans Jeff Coetzee and Wesley Moodie 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.
In the mixed doubles, Chinese Taipei’s Chia Jung Chuang and Israel’s Jonathan Erlich advanced after Leander Paes and Hungary’s Agnes Szavay gave them a walkover in the second round.
In the girls’ singles, Poojashree Venkatesh failed to advance beyond the first round, falling to third seed Austrian Nikola Hofmanova, 1-6, 5-7. Later, she and Janaki Gunuganti lost their doubles tie to Hofmanova and Tyra Calderwood of Australia 2-6, 2-6.
Yuki Bhambri did not have a good doubles outing either, as he and Karanuday Singh fell to a 3-6, 6-7 defeat to the Australian pair of Jarryd Chaplin and Jake Eames.
