Sena members stage protest against price rise

The Shiv Sena today said they would set up vegetable and food grain stalls in every assembly segment in the district.

The Shiv Sena today said they would set up vegetable and food grain stalls in every assembly segment in the district. Around 300 Shiv Sainiks led a protest march to the Zilla Parishad to protest the rising prices of commodities.

We should be able to supply at least 1,000 quintals of food grains to each assembly segment. We will procure the produce directly from the farmers, said Prashant Badhe,vice president of the Pune unit.

Prices of every commodity have doubled. The government has allowed hoarders to flourish,which is the reason for rising prices, he said,calling for stringent action against traders for hoarding goods.

At the Agriculture Produce and Market Committee,traders said the prices of vegetables continued to be high this week because of slow arrival of vegetables from the farms. The most significant price hike was that of tomatoes that have doubled since last week. Last week it was Rs 8 per kg at whole sale,and it has increased to Rs 16 per kg now. In retail,it is up to Rs 25 per kg, said a trader.

Traders at the pulses market said the price of tur dal had reduced slightly in the wholesale market,but in retail it continues to hover around Rs 100 per kg. Chana dal is around Rs 40 in retail,urad dal is around Rs 60 in retail while moongs dal is about Rs 70 in retail.
