Upset over the poor show of the Shiv Sena in its traditional strongholds of Mumbai and Thane, the Shiv Sena in an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamna asked the Marathi manoos to explain his reasons for not voting for the party. It alleged that the Congress had encouraged divide and rule politics and innocent Maharashtrians had fallen prey to it.

The editorial also hinted at corrective steps to remedy the rout. It said that instead of living with the regret,we are more interested in finding a cure to it. It charged the people of Mumbai- Thane with disregarding the sacrifice of the martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra agitation. The editorial also attacked the media for ignoring the Senas success and pointed out that it had won 11 seats as compared to its 2004 tally of 12 and had lost Osmanabad by a slender margin.

Continuing with its tirade against Raj Thackeray,an article titled Marathi man halhalale. Tadfadle: Raj Thackeray, tumhi kharach Marathi Mansachi vaat lavali (The minds of the Maharashtrians are troubled: Raj Thackeray, you really hurt the future of the Maharashtrians) said,The Maharashtrians in Mumbai are regretting that Raj Thackeray really destroyed them. It charged the MNS with cornering a chunk of the Marathi votes, leading to the victory of candidates of Marathi-hating parties.

The Shiv Sena voters felt sad due to the defeat, while those who voted for the MNS are regretting their decision, said the news item, while referring to angry comments against Raj by Maharashtrians on the blog of a Marathi newspaper. It said that the Congress could not have won in Mumbai- Thane without the splitting of votes,to engineer which it joined hands with Marathi traitors.

Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena leadership went into a huddle to review the situation and come up with a strategy for the forthcoming Assembly polls. Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and executive president Uddhav Thackeray met the partys new MPs at the Thackeray residence Matoshree in suburban Bandra on Monday.
