Sessions court turns down accused plea to change trial judge

The Ahmedabad City Civil & Sessions Court on Thursday dismissed the application of certain accused in the 2009 hooch tragedy case whereby they had sought transfer of the case from the court of present trial judge,B V Zala.

The Ahmedabad City Civil & Sessions Court on Thursday dismissed the application of certain accused in the 2009 hooch tragedy case whereby they had sought transfer of the case from the court of present trial judge,B V Zala.

Principal Sessions Judge S H Vora dismissed the application while stating that there were no such allegations against the trial judge on which the case could be transferred.

The accused had cited lack of faith in judge Zala as the ground for the transfer of the case.

They had said that the judge was not giving them proper hearing to their genuine problems and demand to conduct court proceedings outside the jail and in person.

At present,the proceedings are being done through video conference in which the accused do not get a chance to come outside the jail.

Public Prosecutor Sudhir Brahmbhatt confirmed the rejection of the application.

Over 100 people were killed in the tragedy after consuming spurious liquor in July 2009.
