Shaitan gets real

Bejoy Nambiar has shot most scenes of his debut directorial venture,Shaitan,on real locations. The director of the film wants the audience to relate to the film and that according to him, will not be possible if the film is shot on the sets. He shot an intense scene between Rajeev Khandelwal and Pawan Malhotra at a bungalow in Bandra’s Pali Hill in Mumbai. In the scene,Malhotra, who plays a police commissioner in the film, talks about a case to Rajeev, who essays the role of a cop.

It was Malhotra’s first day at the shoot and this was his first scene. “But he got it right in the first take itself, understandably so as he is a veteran actor. Since Rajeev was well prepared for the scene too,it was wrapped up in one go,” says Nambiar.

The director reveals that while filming the scene in the bungalow,he also changed the interiors to a certain extent. He used the iron chains of swings to decorate the white walls of the house, which gave it an antique touch.

Also,an interrogation scene between Rajeev and Neil Bhoopalam has been shot at another location in Andheri in Mumbai. “The interrogation happens inside the police van. This may sound weird but since there are many scenes in the film wherein the suspects are being interrogated by the cops in the police station,I thought of this idea,” explains Nambiar. It was a serious scene between the two and the director says that Rajeev gave Neil some vital tips that helped him to give the right expressions.
